EXCEPTIONAL AUCTION AT CHRISTIE’S PARIS,
OCTOBER 19, 2024

For and about artists

With David Lynch as honorary patron, twelve leading international artists closely associated with the workshop have rallied in support of this fundraising project. They are donating original works to go under the hammer at Christie’s Paris on 19 October 2024 in a Charity Auction. All proceeds will go to L’Imprimerie d’Art de Montparnasse. Buoyed by this enthusiasm, the workshop will live on, providing a haven for artists during their stay in Paris. Behind these doors, they’ll find an extension of their own studio, a quiet space to imagine and create, surrounded by the magic of the stones and the vibrating and thrumming of the presses. A rare moment suspended in time. Read on to learn about their shared passion, peek inside this much-loved workshop and listen to the echos and the artists’ emotion.

Nothing compares

By Cécile Verdier, President of Christie’s France
And Paul Nyzam, Head of the Post-War and Contemporary Art Department

You can still step outside of time in Paris. Behind doors, at the backs of courtyards, there sit little-known gems waiting to be discovered. One such magical place is in the heart of Montparnasse where the smell of ink and the purring of presses draw you into the magical world of fine art lithographic printing. This is L‘Imprimerie d’Art de Montparnasse, a workshop steeped in history and mythology, where Picasso, Miro, Matisse and many others created their celebrated lithographs. And where artisans and artists continue to create new works. To continue to write the story of today’s and tomorrow’s creative artists and secure the future of this historic printworks, a sale of previously unseen works takes place on Saturday October 19th in support of L‘Imprimerie d’Art de Montparnasse endowment fund. Since highlighting excellence is woven into Christie’s DNA, our teams naturally rallied behind the artists’ generosity and the remarkable energy of everyone involved in the project. We are delighted to welcome you to Christie’s, avenue Matignon, from October 10th to discover these exceptional works and place your bids to ensure the future of this one-of-a-kind fine art print studio”.
